Butterfly tour in Nepal

Butterfly tour in Nepal

643 species of butterfly found in nepal

The great wealth of butterfly diversity in Nepal becomes apparent from its great bioclimatic variation from tropical and subtropical zone to the Tundra and the Arctic zone along the attitudinal gradation of the mountains. Over 77 per cent of Nepal's 147,181 sq. km area is mountainous and forest land is estimated to stand at 37.6 per cent.

The interface between the two major zoo-geographic realm i.e. the Palaearctic and the Oriental is very profound in the fauna of Nepal. The Palaearctic realm extending to Nepal on the north of the main Himalayan range and the oriental realm extending to the Terai and foothills of the Himalaya merge into a complex system of mixed high mountains. This has prompted many authors to divide Nepal into three zoo-geographic zones - Indian, Himalayan and Palaearctic. As such endemism in insect fauna is very much pronounced and warrants special attention for studies and research.

The need to investigate into the butterfly fauna of Nepal largely remains unfulfilled. Therefore, an attempt is being made here to consolidate information on the species diversity of butterflies recorded in Nepal.

Butterflies are closely affiliated with the lives of human beings both as foes and friends. Like any other biological species some are rare while others are common and abundant. A number of them face serious threats even within protected areas. Therefore, it is urgent to pay proper attention towards generating proper knowledge and information to enable the government and people of Nepal to protect Nepalese butterflies

School and community maintenance Nepal
Without a school, where do kids get an education? Sadly, the answer is: They do not. Volunteer Program is one of few organizations that targets its activities towards a specific school and strives to bring that school up to basic educational levels. Your contribution will be targeted to one school and you will be able to track the progress of your school and its students. Education is a priority in Nepal because it is a crucial building block in the

Health Care Improvement Program Nepal
Each year, many Nepalese die or suffer unnecessarily due to lack of health education and access to adequate health care resources. The sick in the mountain regions or villages sometimes die long before a physician can even diagnose. Because of the poor transportation, patients often have to be hand-carried in bamboo baskets to the nearest health center, often many miles from their village. Individuals with special knowledge in the

Improves Orphans and Abandon lives Nepal

clothing or education, we are trying to help at least some of them so that they can at l

Teaching English Local School in Nepal
More than 80% of the children from Nepal's villages are unable to access a
good educational system. This is due to the remote mountain geography and
the inability of the country to fund the needs. Motivated teachers are often
made to teach without basic school supplies in schools that are in poor condition.
Due to these hearth-wrenching conditions,
Our volunteer program has initiated an effort to
improve these conditions by providing basic

Yoga Meditation in Nepal

Yoga Meditation in Nepal

Yoga, Meditation Nepal
So many travelers come to Nepal for meditation, yoga, astrology, retreats and to merge with the mighty Himalayas. Activities are mainly centered around the Kathmandu Valley, though Pokhara is becoming popular with more options becoming available. The following gives you a guideline of different spiritual activities and natural healing in Nepal. When you come to Nepal you can find lots of advertising for courses, study and activities on the following topics.

Yoga = 'Unity', 'Oneness'. Came from the Sanskrit word "YOG" which means "TO JOIN". To many, the thought of yoga has an image of postures (Asanas) to develop flexibility, general body health and awareness. This is just the beginning. While the main point is to reach the highest goal of the spiritual path, practicing yoga can give benefits to everyone regardless to their spiritual aims.

The Eight Fold Path of Yoga looks deeply into the morality of living. It consists of: Yama (self restraints), Niyama (self observances) Asana, Pranayama (breath techniques), Pratyhara (withdrawal of the senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (identification with pure consciousness).

There is an inter-relationship between yoga and meditation and you can decide to focus more on either one or both together. The Himalayas have played a big role in self realization. It's isolation from the world and ideal environment makes Nepal an ideal place to practice yoga.

Kathmandu is where you'll find yoga classes most. Notice boards in hotels and restaurants will advertise current courses and activities.

Vipassana is one of the most ancient techniques. Long lost to people, it was rediscovered by Gautam Buddha more than 2500 years ago. Vipassana means 'to see things as they really are'. It is an art of living which frees the individual from all the negativities of mind, such as anger, greed and ignorance. It is a practice which develops positive, creative energy for the betterment of the individual and society.

The path (Dhamma) is a universal remedy for universal problems and has nothing to do with any religion. It can be practiced freely by anyone without conflict with race, caste or religion, in any place, and at any time and it will prove beneficial to everyone.

Nepal has many places where you can uncover further truths through meditation.

Travels and Trekking Information

Travels and Trekking Information
Trekking is the gift of Nepal to the world in adventure tourism. To be one with Nature, to regenerate one's own self-esteem, to rediscover oneself, to appreciate Nepal's beauty, to interact with its hospitable and friendly peoples are some of the highlights of trekking in Nepal. Trekking is one long-term activity that draws repeat visitors to the country. Therefore, Nepal is the ultimate destination for the trekking enthusiast. It offers a myriad of possibilities - from the "short and easy" walking excursions to the "demanding and strenuous" challenges of the snowy peaks and their foothills and valleys. But however easy, or moderate, or strenuous, there is something for every palate that goes with trekking in Nepal's hills, mountains and hinterlands. The most rewarding way to experience Nepal's indomitable combination of natural beauty and cultural riches is to walk through the length, breadth and the altitudes of Nepal. Trekking in Nepal is as much a unique cultural experience as well as an ultimate Himalayan advent.

Nepal Village Tourism

Nepal Village Tourism.

Village tourism, a recent innovation, is successfully demonstrated
at Sirubari in Syangja a half day s distance from Pokhara.
It is a three hour walk from the road-head just 30 kilometers from Pokhara.
A management committee takes responsibility for visitors, their welcome,
accommodation, sightseeing and guiding. The village consists of 60
households of which many are offering guest accommodation.
It is a very neat and clean village, the accommodation is simple, but comfortable, with good bedding, as well as clean toilet facilities. Meals of daily fresh food are eaten with the family, and each evening there is entertainment provided by the community, which is usually Gurung dancing and singing.

There is a Buddhist monastery/Gompa in the core of the village; it has a vibrant Gurung culture, and they are a mixture of Buddhist, Hindu or Shaman. The region abounds with flora and fauna, with two hills nearby providing stunning views of Nepal s western Himalayas. Trails and steps are formed and paved, and many shrines and pilgrima ge sites dot the landscape. The season is September to June, and while staying there visitors can visit cottage industries such as traditional handicrafts and paper making; and a plant nursery covering 380 hectares of flora, including one million trees and plants. There are two small lakes nearby and bird watching and wildlife observation are possible. Sirubari won the PATA Gold Award 2001 in the Heritage & Culture - Heritage Category.

In the Gorkha District of Nepal a community tourist program is in its third year of operation. The area is full of natural beauty, panoramic views, green mid-hill trekking, unspoilt jungle areas, lakes, caves, waterfalls and flora (medicinal, scented and edible plants).

Accessible from Kathmandu and Pokhara, there is a one day walk to the model tourism village . Village treks can be undertaken while experiencing village and rural life, as well as visiting the majestic hill-top palace of Gorkha Bazar. Accommodation is in individual guestrooms with host families, or in between villages, in tents. During trekking meals are provided by professional teams, and in the villages visitors can try a delicious, hygienically prepared Nepali Daalbhaat consisting of locally produced rice, lentils and garden fresh organically grown vegetables. The guestrooms are simple, but clean and cosy, with latrines available and a water tap close by. (Electricity, hot showers and separate bathrooms are not available so far).

In the mid-west of Nepal in the Shyangja District, another model tourism village project is underway. This is an agricultural and animal husbandry based community with no other income source; the intention is to carry out infrastructure development, heritage conservation and renovation, plus training and development of the villagers in the region. Located to the north east is Dahare Deurali, a famous religious site, and a beautiful location for viewing Himalayan peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhare. It is at an altitude of 3,900 feet with a population of more than 6,500 people in the village and surrounding area.
Sirubari Village.

Sirubari village is a totally unspoiled Gurung settlement set in the hills at an altitude of 1700 metres above sea level. The climate is ideal at any time during the September to June season with warm days and cool nights.

The village is a short drive and walk from Pokhara, the major tourist centre for the Annapurna region. It is reached from the road to Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha.

You will be welcomed into the community and invited to stay in the home of one of the village families. The accommodation is simple but comfortable with good bedding and clean toilet facilities. The food is delicious and you will be eating as one of the family. Each night there will be entertainment provided by the community. This will be in the form of traditional Gurung and Nepali dancing and singing, you can join in if you like!

As the locals are all Buddhist, the village gompa, a simple but beautiful temple, will be feature of your stay. There will be the chance to get a blessing from the resident lama before you leave.

Just because you are not trekking it doesn?t mean that you won?t see the mountains. An easy walk above the village is a viewpoint at Thumro. At 2300 metres this is the highest point south of Pokhara and the views on a clear day are spectacular .

Spread before you are rolling foothills dotted with isolated farming communities and crowned by an array of snow peaks that will leave you breathless. From Langtang in the east, through Machhapuchare and the Annapurnas and around to Dhaulagiri the Himalayan giants all line up for your camera to capture.

During your stay you will be able to feel what it is like to live the life of a Nepali villager. Walk with your family while they go about their daily chores, tending animals, tilling the fields, going to school with the children, or just sitting in th sun talking to neighbours.

Feel free to wander, safely, by yourself and look at all of the developments that the community have supported and funded; the primary health centre with its? doctor, the agricultural service centre, the veterinary hospital, the plant nursery and forest plantation. The list goes on..

And, at the end of your stay, you will be overwhelmed by the farewell that your new family will give you. If you never come this way again the village and its people will remain in your heart forever.

Repository of a unique ethnic culture ?Ghelegaun? is a true microcosm of stunning natural beauty mixed with an unspoiled ethnic life style.

Located is the district of Lamjung, Ghale Gaun is approximately 20.5km north west of Kathmandu and 12.5 km north east of Pokhara ? the picturesque hill town of western Nepal. Perched atop a ridge at an altitude of 2016 meters from the sea level, Glalegaun is probably the only place which commands a superb breathtaking view of majestic western Himalayas including Machhapuchhare(6693m) Annapurna(8091m), Annapurna II (7939m) Annapurna IV (7525m), Lamjung Himal, Bouddha Himal((6974m), Himalchuli(6747m) and many more smaller peaks.

Taking advantage of such a unique location, Ghalegaun- a picturesque hamlet of about 95 Gorung style houses, has recently been marketed as a new destination to experience ?Village tourism?. Accordingly quite a number of houses have been prepared for domestic and international visitors with comfortable basic amenities.

Besides the scenic extravaganza of the peaks, the warm and sincere hospitality of the Gurung people is also bound to overwhelm the visitors. Here food items such as grain, vegetable, meat, milk, eggs, are all locally produced and are indeed for any chemical fertilizers. In addition, the life-style of the village truly reflects an exotic living ethnic tradition handed down since ages. The social life is replete with interesting rituals of life cycle; birth wedding, death etc., religious events and a lively cultural tradition of dance and music and it is well augmented by interesting locally produced exotic handicrafts and utensils.

Activities around Ghalegaun include bird watching at Talangyo Lake and visits to the Utter Kanya Temple, Pempro Fall, Batase Cave and the Khudi hydroelectric dam site.

Cultural Attractions
Ghalegaun -Ghanpokhara are model villages for experiencing the typical culture and lifestyle of the Gurung people. Traditional customs are still followed during births, deaths, marriages and at other important times in a person?s life. Age-old cultural dances like the Jhyaure, Serka, Dohori, Ghantu, Ghyabring, Krishna Charitra and Jhakri are performed on various occasions accompanied by different musical instruments with the dancers in traditional dress.

Handicrafts

The people of Ghalegaun-Ghanpokhara keep goats and sheep and use wool from these animals to make woolen products. They make clothes and bags from nettle fiber (allo cloth) and scarfs, towels and shawls from the wool of angora rabbits. Ironsmiths make different iron products. Craftsmen produce a whole range of different products from bamboo.

Lodging and fooding

Comfortable rooms with clean restrooms are available at selected Gurung houses. Although there is no electricity in the village, lamps and water heating system facilities are available through solar power. There are a few Pahuna Ghar (Guest House) belonging to the Aama Samuha (Mother?s Community) that also provide accommodation. More than 100 tourists can be accomodated both in Ghalegaon and Ghanpokhara seperately. Good camping sites are also available at both Ghalegaun and Ghanpokhara.

Option 2

Until now, tourism in Nepal has meant city based sightseeing or days, or even weeks, of strenuous trekking.
"What is village tourism?"
Our guests are taken to unspoiled villages where they spend a few days living with the local people and being treated as honored family guests. While staying in the villages, guests enjoy comfortable accommodation, delicious local food and drink and a welcome that will remain a happy memory for a lifetime. While they are with us our guests can rest assured that they are always in a secure and safe environment.
Local attractions, both scenic and cultural, are shown to our guests by our well trained ethnic guides who always do their utmost to make the guest’s stay a memorable experience. Many of our villages are close to unspoiled natural areas where wildlife may be seen undisturbed. This can be a feature of our packages for special interest groups.
The traditional culture of the different ethnic groups is a highlight of all of our village visits. These warm and friendly people are always ready to perform their music and dance and to give an insight into their religion. Examples of local handicrafts will be on display, and for sale, to guests.

"What is provided in the cost of the package?"
Almost everything. Our packages include all transport from the designated starting point, all guide wages and insurance, all food and drink, all the facilities in the village including sightseeing, cultural programs and community donations and any permits or entry fees that may be required. The only extra that you can possibly spend are on the purchase of locally made handicrafts.
"Where does all of the money go?"
Our packages are costed to ensure that a major proportion of the income is directed to the village communities. In this way we are able to support the preservation of the priceless heritage that is Nepali culture while improving the lifestyle and well-being of the local people. We are also funding an on-going research project aimed at locating other suitable sites and conducting local hospitality training.
"How do you book?"
You can book direct with us at Blue bird travel and tour P Ltd (Nepal) or through one of our many agents in Nepal and worldwide.
Our packages can be added to any other program that you are planning in Nepal or we can tailor a complete package combining a village stay with some of the many other attractions of this fascinating country. For detailed itineraries please contact our head office in Kathmandu.
Destinations.
Our first village destination to be operational is the Gurung village of Sirubari, near Pokhara. Other villages, representing different ethnic groups, are being developed and we expect to have several more sites available during 2000.

Tibet Mount Kailash Pilgrimage Tour package

Tibet Mount Kailash Pilgrimage Tour package:(15 night /16 days)

To Tibetans it is known as Khang Rimpoche (Precious Jewel of Snow) and they see it as the navel of the world. It is said that a stream from the mountain pours into a nearby lake and from here rivers flow in the four cardinal directions. The River of the Lion Mouth to the North, the River of the Horse Mouth to the east, the River of the Peacock Mouth to the south and the River of the Elephant Mouth to the West. Strangely enough, four major rivers do indeed originate near Kailash, the Indus, the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra), the Karnali and the Sutlej. Tibetans believe that it is the residence of Demchog, a fierce looking tantric deity who lives there with his consort, Dorje Phagmo. For the Tibetans also, it is a particularly special place in that their poet saint Milarepa, spent several years here meditating in a cave.
For the Hindus Mount Kailash is the earthly manifestation of Mt. Meru, their spritual centre of the universe, described as a fanatastic ‘world pillar’ 84,000 miles high, around which all else rovolves, its roots in the lowest hell and its summit kissing the heavens. On the top lives their most revered God, Shiva, and his consort Parvati. For the Jains, an Indian religious group, Kailash is the site where their first prophet achieved enlightenment. For the older, more ancient religion of Bon, it is the site where its founder Shanrab is said to have descended from heaven. It was formerly the spiritual centre of Zhang Zung, the ancient Bon Empire that once included all of western Tibet. Bon people walk around the mountain in a counter clockwise manner, unlike the other religions.
Over the centuries pilgrims have constantly journeyed immense distances to achieve enlightement or cleanse themselves of sin, braving enourmous distances, particularly harsh weather and bandit attacks. Although main focus of this trek is Mount Kailash in Tibet, the journey through Nepal’s border with Tibet at Zhangmu, Saga and Paryang to Darchen is culturally and scenically reward

( Three famous honey hunter)………

Much of the climbing over steep and rugged cliffs that go up to 2,500m is done with the help of locally prepared hemp rope. Carrying large wickerwork basket for putting honey, steps are taken with utmost caution as there is no support system in the event of fall. Specially designed tool called Bahana is used to fetch honey. The hole process of climbing up and down fearful height by precariously balancing on craggy edges is quite heart – rending. Tourists entertain and prize this spectacular displays of skills and stamina in ‘natural’ and geographical setting. Honey hunting in the high hill (up to the attitude of 3500m), cliffs and dangerous places is a perfect activity for those adventure lovers who dare to choose adventure in any from, soft or hard ones. The scenery, technique, and symbolic language used to foster understanding between helpers are really found to be magical and witch crafting. In spite of the fact that Nepal has such a unique and rich cultural activity it is hardly been given due notice to owing to awareness and lack of professionalism. “although honey hunting is feasible, it is yet to be Packaged and sold Professionalism. “Although honey hunting is feasible, it is yet to be packaged and sold Professionally”. Sudarshan Pradhan, GM of Ghalegaon says. The resort is probably the first in Nepal To bring the preliminary concept of honey hunting package for tourists. He further says, “ Many tourist from different countries are frequently requesting me to manage special package for honey hunting”.

Bouddhanath Stupa was renovated by Licchavi rulers in the eighth century. The mandala design in Bouddhanath is a copy of the one in Gyangtse in Tibet. The stupa is located in the area of ancient trade route to Tibet where Tibetan merchants rested and offered prayers for many centuries. When refugees entered Nepal from Tibet in the 1950s, many decided to live around Bouddhanath. Hence, a complete township has developed around Bouddhanath. The stupa is said to entomb the remains of a Kasyap sage venerable both to Buddhists and Hindus. Smaller stupas are located at the base. Gompa monasteries, curio shops, and restaurants surround Bouddhanath.

Changu Narayan

Narayan, or Vishnu, is the preserver of creation to Hindus. His temple near Changu village is often described as the most ancient temple in the Kathmandu Valley. A fifth century stone inscription, the oldest to be discovered in Nepal, is located in the temple compound and it tells of the victorious King Mandev. The temple now covers sixteen hundred years of Nepalese art history. The temple, built around the third century, is decorated by some of the best samples of stone, wood, and metal craft in the Valley. In the words of one tourist guide, "When you look upon Changu Narayan, you observe the complete cultural development of the Valley."

On the struts of the two-tiered Changu Narayan Temple, are the ten incarnations in which Narayan destroyed evil-doers. A sixth-century stone statue shows the cosmic form of Vishnu, while another statue recalls his dwarf incarnation when he crushed the evil king Bali. Vishnu as Narsingha disemboweling a demon is particularly stunning. The western bronze doors sparkle in the evening sunlight, dragons decorate the bells, and handsome devas stare from the walls. Garuda, half man and half bird, is the steed of Vishnu, and his life-sized statue kneels before the temple. The favourite of many tourists is the statue of Vishnu sitting astride his steed.
